The DC Coalition for Housing Justice, began as an Ad Hoc committee in April of 2000, by a group of concern activists, tenants, organizations and citizens.  In July, 2002, we incorporated the organization as a 501 (c ) 3 non-profit organization and received a federal tax-exempt status in July 2004.

We initially rallied around the issue of a Hot Property List, which was issued by the Mayor’s office and the D.C. Dept. of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, under the guise of condemning properties located in diverse neighborhoods. The residents of these communities had been, and continue to be besieged by decades of housing problems.

As advocates we secured for them the opportunity to purchase their dwellings.
